Friday we had an Individuals and Societies lesson. We started the lesson by researching some sculptures and paintings from the Renaissance.
Then our teacher showed us some sculptures from the Medieval Periods and the Greek periods.
We then analized those works of art and we saw some differences.
Renaissance art is more alike with the Greek art because both of these time periods used the "Canon of Beauty". Usually people at that time made sculptures of humans differently and modified their pieces of art to match their prespective of what they thought beauty was.

From Renaissance From Greeks
If we now see a sculpture from the Medieval age we can realize that there is not much beauty. Instead they are more focused on representing their religion and there is not many attention to details or beauty(body and face).
In the Medieval period people were more intrested in the topic of the sculpture and in what the sculpture reperesnts.
From this image we can see clearly that there is less facial expressions and less focus on the "Canon of Beauty".
The "Canon of Beauty" still exists nowadays, but instead of it being represented in paintings and sculptures we can now see the beauty in simple photos. Obviously the beauty nowadays is a little different but there are still some similarities.

| The Three Graces |
In this timeline, we can see that the perspective of beauty has changed. In the "the three graces " From Rubens we can see clearly that Beauty at that time was being fat. Mainly because at that time they had lack of food and most of the people were skinny.
Nowadays people think that being skinny is much more beautiful.
Having an athletic body is also a main characteristic in nowadays' Canon of Beauty. For us seeing a fat person is not the ideal kind of beauty, because being fat can mean that the person is unhealthy it could mean that the person doesn't do sport...
We think that skinny people are much more beautiful, people don't often like the appearance of fat people since it isn't very common nowadays.
See you next time bye!

Congratulation for this complete entry Dóris! You now have a clearer idea on how the Canon of beauty has changed over time. The comparison between the different time periods was very interesting. Well done, and keep it up! :)
