Renaissance

In this unit we are going to study the Renaissance and the Humanism.

Renaissance

Before Renaissance the population just believed in God (Theocentrism). After the end of Middle Ages people started having some interest in knowing what happend in the past and they started think more about their own values (Anthropocentrism).
The Renaissance was also the time period when some explorations and discoveries of new continents  took place.
At this time there was a decline of the feudal system and there was a growth in trading. The Renaissace also brought some innovations such as:
  • Paper
  • The compass
  • Printing press
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gutenberg

The printing press was invented by the German monk called Gutenberg. After this innovation the not handwritten books were called incunables.

Printing Press

This invention was very important because with this monks could print much faster and easier, so the population Started having more knowledge because they started reading those incunables.

  1. Excellent Dóris, congratulations. Could you just explain the difference between Theocentrism and Anthropocentrism? Well done!

  2. Thanks for the improvements Dóris. Just two things:
    1. Could you explain how "the population started to have more knowledge" thanks to the printing press? And you're mixing manuscripts and books. State the difference.
    2. Could you try to find the name given to the first books printed? (The ones printed before 1501) Hint: it is a latin word 1501 ;)This will help you to establish a clearer difference.
